Physical Therapy for Parkinson's Disease Treatment

What is Parkinson's Disease?

Parkinson's Disease is a brain disorder that causes unintended or uncontrollable movements such as stiffness, and difficulty with balance and coordination. Symptoms often begin gradually and worsen over time. As the disease progresses, many people have difficulty walking and talking. Physical Therapy for Parkinson's Disease can provide many benefits that can improve the quality of your life!

How does Parkinson's Disease affect movement?

People with Parkinson's Disease often have trouble with their posture, weight shifting, and walking due to slowed movements or bradykinesia. If you live in the Kalamazoo area, Core Balance is going to be your best source for PT and all the benefits that can help you relieve, and improve your symptoms.  We have two specially trained therapists who can set up a program to meet your individial needs.

How can physical therapy help control Parkinson's symptoms and progression?

PWR! and LSVT BIG exercises are specifically designed programs for people with Parkinson's Disease, and they are prescribed by a trained physical therapist who can work to combat bradykinesia and other movement symptoms.  Big and fast movements are used to help reduce the rate of progression and help ease symptoms of Parkinson's Disease.

Individualized Care is our Gold Standard

At Core Balance, we have two therapists, Dr. Mia Knight and Dr. Meredith Fidler, who are trained in PWR! for Parkinson's Disease.  Dr. Knight is also trained in LSVT BIG.  We will gladly design an exercise program for your specific needs.  During each one-hour visit you will work on individualized exercises with targeted results that you can feel...because it's the quality of life that matters most!
